Eby sustainably sources

Eby subscriptions will be available on a monthly, bi-monthly, or quarterly basis to subscribers, and Vergara says they will be available at an affordable price-point due to the subscription model. That said, the company is not announcing official pricing until the Eby officially launches on September 25. However, I’m told that they will be around $15/pair, depending on style.

Though they wouldn’t share the name of the garment factory they’re working with (because they’re manufacturing patented products), they did explain that it’s part of the “Women Go Beyond” program that has helped to boost working conditions in Sri Lankan garment factories Enterprise Information Security.

She’s launched her own line of make up, fragrance, and hair care products, alongside endorsement deals with companies like Rooms To Go, SharkNinja, Head and Shoulders, and Cover Girl.

And it’s paid off. According to Fortune, Vergara’s hustle netted the entrepreneurial actress $43 million in 2016.

I asked Vergara if she plans on investing more deeply in the tech world Tape replacement.

So a view, even a smallish, second-string view, that involves some greenery and the tiniest hint of openness, can be wondrous.

That view is now all gloomy skies and waving branches, the air heavy with the promise/threat of rain…although any water has yet to show itself. I am cozily ensconced inside, here in this my favorite spot, eating a snack of freshly baked bread from my favorite bakery, slathered with cream cheese and homemade mango jam made by my father. Typing away at the keyboard. Enjoying my view. Thinking that in a short bit I’m going to get up and get started on a pot of chicken tinola, our local chicken soup infused with ginger and cooked with malunggay (moringa) and chili leaves and unripe papaya. If the pregnant skies fulfill their promise, then it will indeed be the perfect night for a hot bowl of tinola Hong Kong Cultural Activities.

And in these simple pleasures, I am happy and content. And I realize, once again, among the many times I’ve had this realization, that it really takes so little to make us happy. This isn’t a recipe for chicken tinola. That must wait until the day I manage to pin down specific quantities to a recipe that is mostly by feel. So I’ll leave you with this. Still very simple…in fact, it must take only 10 minutes to throw this together. Mongolian Chicken
(adapted from Mongolian Beef in Easy Chinese Recipes by Bee Yinn Low)

1 tablespoon + 1 teaspoon soy sauce
1/2 tablespoon oyster sauce
1 teaspoon hoisin sauce
1 teaspoon Chinese rice wine
1 teaspoon cornstarch
1/2 teaspoon sesame oil
1 teaspoon sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
3 dashes white pepper
300 grams boneless chicken thigh fillets, cut into pieces
1 1/2 tablespoons of oil
2 cloves garlic, minced
1-inch piece of fresh ginger, peeled and sliced into thin pieces
3 young leeks, white and light green parts only, sliced diagonally

- Mix together the soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, Chinese rice wine, cornstarch, sesame oil, sugar, salt, and white pepper. Add the chicken to this mixture and marinade for 15 minutes.
- Heat a wok or skillet over high heat. Add about half of the oil. Add the chicken with the marinade to the pan and stir-fry until the chicken is browned on all sides (and the marinade thickens and coats the chicken). Remove from pan and set aside.
- Heat the remaining oil in the pan, still over high heat. Add the ginger and garlic and stir-fry until aromatic. Return the chicken to the wok and toss until chicken is cooked through. Add the leeks and stir to combine. Take off the heat and serve.

Tip: If you want to add some more nutrition, add some peas (I use frozen peas that have been quickly blanched) to the pan when you add the chicken back in.

I adapted this recipe from Bee’s Mongolian Beef (which I have also made…to great success). I love her cookbook and can’t say enough about it. Although Chinese food is common over here, it is not something I can say I was ever fully confident enough to attempt in my own kitchen. Bee’s book has held my hand and made me believe I could.

The pavement outside is now dark and slick, and the rain that has since started has stopped for a bit, but I still feel blustery weather coming. As I listen to little C’s toy saxophone blowing somewhere in the apartment, followed by big C’s gruff chuckle, and the smell of ginger wafting through the air, I know I have all I need to weather any storm.

One of the things about living in a city like Paris is that you spend a

lot of time – well, dealing with life. Bills to pay Speed Dating, paperwork to do,

typos to avoid, stolen bikes to replace, smokers to dodge Flower shopon sidewalks

pair of shoes, can easily take up much – or all – of your days. It’s

I’ve let them and decided to do a little turn-around by cube organizersrevisiting the

places and eating the things that I love in Paris. It’s easy to forget

the pockets of wonderfulness that people see when they come here for a

week – the parks, the boulevards SKI TRIP, the chocolate shops, and just taking a

stroll and getting some air (in between all the sidewalk maneuvering) and

take in the city.


Macarons aren’t new. Macarons gerbet, or filled macarons are distinctly

Parisian and have been around for about 150 years. True, they are

available elsewhere nowadays. But like a New York or Montreal bagel, or

Chicago deep-dish pizza, certain foods get designated with an appellation

because they are so closely associated with where they were first made.

(Bagels and pizza are from neither of those places mentioned, originally.

And macarons, which were originally from Italy craniosacral massage, then came to France and

are usually available as simple, crispy cookies made with egg whites,

sugar and almonds.) But that’s getting back into minutiae, a word I had

to look up the precise spelling for, twice (more minutiae!) and I’m more

interested in tasting pastries. So I took a stroll over to the relatively

new Pierre Hermé macaron boutique in the Marais.

Macarons kind of had their day in the soleil. Everyone wanted to either

make them, or come to Paris and sample them. For a while, almost every

day a question or two would land in my Inbox from people who were making

macarons, wondering why their macarons didn’t have the ruffled “feet”,

or why their tops cracked – and could I diagnose them? Interviewers were

astonished when they’d ask me what flavors of macarons Parisians made at

home, and I responded that I couldn’t think of anyone that made macarons

in Paris because no one had the space for a baking sheet on their kitchen

counter. And honestly, it’s easier for people to get them at their local

pastry shop or bakery.
